We represent a group of seniors who are interested in staying in their own homes  in Somers and its environs as they age.

We are on the cutting edge of a national trend to reverse the prospect  of having to move to a retirement community, nursing home or to their children's home.

Beacon Hill Village has been operating successfully for the past five years and has produced a manual to help  others replicate their project. They have recently held a conference to assist other groups interested in their concept.
 

At Home in Somers (AHIS) is a grassroots effort to provide programs and services seniors need or may need in the future to help remain in their own homes, safely and independently’  AHIS invites you to become a Charter Member of our community organization as many people are doing in aging-in-place organizations across America.

 
Similar groups are forming all around us. Each group has, as we do, a task force of volunteers surveying  the services that residents of their communities have, need, want and are willing to pay for.  These will determine the services to be provided, the fees required for membership and the fees needed, taking into account the joint purchasing power of the organization, to service the requirements of those in need of additional services. 

Categories such as transportation, home repairs and maintenance, medical and/or care giving and companionship services, social,cultural and educational activities might also be included.

While we do not plan to duplicate services already provided by the Town of Somers or Westchester County, we envision  a concierge type arrangement to provide to our members easier and better access to all services at reduced costs.
